This post is here to clarify, remind and help with preparation of your Web 2.0 tools TEACHING session.
First important point: Your team is teaching a skill. Your team will become the experts on that tool. All of these tools will be used throughout the semester. When students have a question about a tool they will come to you to ask questions, because you are the experts, you were responsible for TEACHING how to use it!
Presentation: definition: an exhibition or performance
Teaching: definition: to impart knowledge of or skill in; give instruction in
A Presentation uses a slideshow application almost exclusively.
When you are teaching, you MIGHT use a slideshow for some basic information, but then you would use the application you are TEACHING about!
Think about one of the earliest things you learned, or were taught. Maybe to catch/throw a ball. Would your uncle George have just drawn you a picture of a ball? And then continued with more pictures of people throwing and catching a ball? NO! Would he have had you close your eyes while he talked about the concept of playing catch? NO!
He would have grabbed a ball, shown it to you in his hand, shown how he gripped it, shown you how to throw it up in the air and catch it with he other hand.
Action Plan:
- Meet with your Web 2.0 teaching team.
- Plan your teaching session using all team members and the full available 12 - 15 minutes. Planning involves more than just: "I'll do a, she'll do b, he'll do c"
- Prepare a handout to email to me, if you think it is appropriate. (not required!) I'll print enough for the class.
- Wednesday - you TEACH!
